This is not an NYC Lifestyle blog. Nor an Immigrant Series kinda blog. I will say that this blog post can be related to the Inside The Fashion Industry blog series, but it is also not… this is not my typical kind of blog post, but since you all enjoyed my previous blog IMMIGRANT SERIES - Books Are The Best Friends You Can Have, I decided to create a separate and independent blog post about my current readings. If you have a business mentality (and want to start your fashion brand), these books will blow your mind.
Ok ok, these books (besides Seth Godin’s one) are very much into business, that is why this would be a great reading for all my clients and followers who are thinking about starting their fashion business. But, in general, all these books talk about more than business and how to become a successful leader/ successful entrepreneur. These books talk to you as a person who wants to accomplish more in life and go after a passion, not only monetary success.
If anyone of you is trying to become the best in your personal life, business, and relationships, these are for you:
The Dip - by Seth Godin
My brother’s wife suggested this book and, since it was Seth Godin, I bought it immediately. Let me tell you, A GREAT BOOK!
This is a very short book. You can probably finish in about two hours, but it is a very intense book. He talks about becoming the best at what you do, the obstacles you will face to get there, and, most importantly, how the dip is our biggest obstacle before becoming successful in anything we do.
In any business there are superstars. Whether is about Elon Musk being a superstar entrepreneur, or Chris Evans being a superstar in the Hollywood world. Any industry has a superstar and, to get there, we all face the dip, and Seth Godin explains all the different types of dip and how we fall into them.
The Heart of Business - by Hubert Joly
If you google Hubert Joly, here is one of the things that you will find “Hubert Joly is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Best Buy Co., Inc. where he led the company's turnaround and transformed it into an industry leader, consistently rated one of the best places to work for.” and this is exactly what this book is about!
He talks about his life as an entrepreneur and how he saved Best Buy company from becoming another failed retail store in America’s history. What I enjoyed most about this book is that he talks about his personal experience as a leader, his mistakes, how he improved, and how he focused on people. Yes, people! And by people, we are not talking only about customers, but also the employees and their working experience.
CEO Excellence - Carolyn Dewar, Scott Keller & Vikram Malhotra
Ok, I will admit that this book is WAY more into a CEO’s life and what involves becoming a CEO, but the book points out seven different approaches that any CEO needs to achieve success. No, none of the approaches is about making money.
This is a longer boog, but these three authors bring some very insightful life lessons and industry analysis that will certainly help you understand why you should focus on the business outcome and its impact on society, and not only on the profits.
I know that all of these books are about entrepreneur life, but the truth is that being an entrepreneur is also a job. We all want to succeed, be happy, and be the best, whether that is starting our own business, growing in the company we work for or simply becoming the best version of ourselves. Applying all the knowledge of these books in your personal life is as important as using them in the business world.
