NEVER A TRADITIONAL HOLIDAY

It is hard to keep tradition when you are away from family and everything you have ever known since you were a kid. Not being with family during Christmas is something that always hits me hard. That is why I like to put the Christmas tree up, decorate the house and keep the warm and cozy spirit. Not just for me, but to be able to share a bit of what the holidays mean to me with the people I love.

When I first wrote about the holiday spirit on NOT A TRADITIONAL HOLIDAY last year, I opened up about staying strong, finally being able to keep my holiday traditions and sharing them with my friends and new family. It took me a while, but I finally learned that the holiday spirit has to be more than just about me, my old traditions, and the fact that I miss my family.

Looking to the future, I learned that, to keep my holiday spirit alive, I had to adapt to being away from family and, obviously, share what I love the most about the holidays with my new family and friends. The cultural differences can be a bit tough. Especially when you are trying to adapt and share your costumes with your new family.

Last year, after opening up about keeping the holiday spirit alive, I had a lot of friends and readers reaching out to me and letting me know that it made a huge difference for them. They also decided to keep their holiday traditions alive because of how I motivated them in my post. Well, this year I hope to let you know that it cannot be just about you anymore.

Looking to the future you want to build in the US, you will, most definitely, not be with your family for the holidays. You will be with the new family you are building in this country and you will adapt to your friends and new family traditions. It can be a lot of change and it can be scary, but honestly, I never felt better about change and about learning new holiday costumes.

You do not have to forget or abandon the traditional habits you had back in your country, but adapting to new traditions and sharing what you love most about the holidays is the key to looking to the future. Embrace it and enjoy it!

This is a little holiday blog post made with love from me, my new family, and new costumes to you.
